Story One day, Luta, Greta , eliZa, and Allison decided to race each other. Greta skipped, eliZa ran, Allison walked, and Luta hopped. Luta got a ten foot head start, Allison got a five foot head start, and eliZa got a three second delay. In the race, Greta ran fifty-feet in six seconds. Allison walked forty-five feet in nine seconds. Luta hopped forty feet in seven seconds. And eliZa ran fifty feet in three seconds after her three second delay. Therefore Greta’s equation was Y=50/6x, Allison’s was Y=45/9x+5, Eliza’s was Y=50/3x-50, and Luta’s was Y=40/7x+10. Who passes who when? What is the order of finish? Make this fun and interesting to read….

Equations Eliza 50/3x Y=50/3x-50 Greta 50/6x Y=50/6x Luta 40/7x
Eliza ran 50 feet and her slope is related because it shows how many feet she runs a second. Her y-intercept is -50 because she started from 3 seconds later. She started 3 seconds late so her starting point is (3,0) Greta skipped 50 feet and her slope is related because it shows how many feet she skipped per second. Her y-intercept is 0 because she started at (0,0) Luta hopped on one foot for 40 feet. The slope represents how many feet she hopped in one second. The y-intercept it 10 because she started 10 feet ahead. Allison walked 45 feet, her slope represents how many feet she walked per second. Her y-intercept is 5 because she started 5 feet ahead. Eliza 50/3x Y=50/3x-50 Greta 50/6x Y=50/6x Luta 40/7x Y=40/7x+10 Allison 45/9x Y=45/9x+5 What is the second column? If it is slope, it should not include x…and your slopes should be in reduced form. I know that slope “represents how many feet she ___ per second,” but tell me each person’s slope and what it means to that particular racer.

Graph Very nice graph, but write the equations above/next to each line.
