What is Hegarty Maths? An online platform for all year groups to help you learn, practice and revise maths; Each topic is broken into tiny pieces with a video and a quiz to test your understanding Topics range from simply learning your times tables all the way through to grade 9 topics at GCSE. There is something for everyone!
3
What is Hegarty Maths? Years 8-11 will have seen this trialled last year We will be using this in a different way from now on – hence this presentation. HLTs have to be worthwhile. Evidence shows that going back to practice topics at a later date is vital for learning. We call this revision! Most maths HLTs will be set on Hegarty maths as revision work.
4
What will you get? 24/7 access, 365 days of the year;
Your own username and password; All homework set through the website; An ICT room available each week after school if you need it;

What does studying look like?
A video explaining the topic by a real maths teacher A self-marking quiz that is directly related to the video – no trick questions Building blocks – don’t understand the video? Building blocks show you the topics you need to understand BEFORE you try this new topic. They act as more support for your learning.

Maths HLT Book Excellence Checklist – The Test Valley Way
I get it I know that this is a weekly written homework and that my book will be checked weekly. I know that these tasks will act as revision of topics that we learnt recently but not from this week. I have written and underlined the title, video number and date. Made full notes on the videos – I have copied the examples from the video into my book and made any other useful notes to myself. I should be spending at least 30 minutes per week in total on these tasks. Used a ruler and a pencil for diagrams. Written every quiz question with full working out in my book. Marked my questions as I go in my book. When an answer is incorrect, I correct this in a different colour pen. If I don’t get 100%, I try the quiz at least one more time to correct mistakes (my teacher will know how many times I have watched the video and done the quiz). I did not understand the video you set me so I watched the building blocks and aimed to get 100% on the scores for these too before watching the video you set me again. I write my final attempt quiz score in my book at the end of the homework. I keep getting less than 70% after trying more than once so I have asked my teacher for support. My internet/phone/tablet/computer/laptop is not working so I am going to do it in school this week. I understand that I will be in a lunch time catch-up for not completing it and must complete it ASAP to avoid further sanctions. This should be stuck in the front of student books Parent/Carer Signature: ____________________ Student Signature: _____________________

The task will be a simple one: Video 18 – addition This is all about making our expectations clear on effort, presentation and quality of work. Take them through a task. Watch the video. Copy the examples. Copy the quiz questions with full working out. Write the answers clearly and circle them. Do some answers wrong on purpose to show them what happens. It will mark it incorrect once to give them a chance to correct it. If they get it wrong again, the correct answer will be given.
