2 Basic DRILL training lesson 1 – AIM AND PURPOSE OF DRILL

3 Before we begin… In the event of an emergency, please leave by the nearest exit quickly and quietly and go to the muster point, where a nominal roll will be taken.

4 BEFORE WE BEGIN… If you have any questions at any time, feel free to pop your hand up and I will answer them for you

5 INTRODUCTION The aim of this lesson is for you to learn the aim and purpose of drill. This will help you to pass your basic drill and turnout The reason why you need to know this is so that you understand why you are doing drill

6 The AIM of Drill

7 a) To produce a cadet who is alert and obedient

8 B) To provide the basis of teamwork

9 The PURPOSE of Drill

10 a) To ENABLE BODIES OF CADETS TO BE MOVED EASILY AND QUICKLY FROM POINT TO POINT IN AN ORDERLY MANNER

11 b) Encourage cadets to hold themselves properly, developing lungs and muscles

12 c) It is the foundation of military discipline

13 introduction You will now practise two basic movements: ‘BEND THE KNEE’ And ‘SHOOT THE FOOT FORWARD’

I HAVE SOME FOR YOU! What is the first aim of drill? To produce a cadet who is alert and obedient

I HAVE SOME FOR YOU! What is the second purpose of drill? Encourage cadets to hold themselves properly, developing lungs and muscles

17 SUMMARY In summary, you have learnt what the aim and purpose of drill is, and how it relates to the drill training you will do in your cadet career
