Prose vs. Poetry Prose: -The regular form of spoken and written language, measured in sentences rather than lines, as in poetry -We are used to reading prose in novels, short stories, essays, articles, etc. Poetry/Verse: -The art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts; literary work in metrical form; verse. -We are used to using the terms poetry and verse interchangeably

Mood The feelings evoked while reading a literary text. CAN ALWAYS BE DESCRIBED WITH AN EMOTION WORD! Happy Sad Gloomy Excited Funny

Syntax/Diction Syntax: -Choice of sentence structure and order in writing Example: Quickly, we ate the pizza. We ate the pizza quickly. Diction: -Choice of words that largely determines the tone of a narrative and influences the style of the creative piece of fiction We devoured the pizza quickly.

Euphony/Cacophony Euphony: -Using pleasing or harmonious sounds to achieve a desired mood in writing Cacophony: -Using harsh or awkward sounds to achieve a desired mood in writing
