6. Eugene Ionescone
Eugene Ionescone wan born in Slatin a Romania on November 13, 1939. He gr ew up in France before moving back to Romania after his parents divorced. He studied Literature at the University of Bucharest , his first play (the bald soprano) was first produced in May 1950. After this play was finally noticed he continued to write 20 other plays.

John Smith wrote histories of Virginia based on his experiences as an English explorer and a president of the Jamestown colony.
Nathanial Ward and John Winthrop wrote books on religion, a topic of central concern in colonial America.

11. 50's culture
A sense of uniformity pervaded American socie ty. Conformity was common, as young and old alike followed group norms rather than striking out on their own. But not all Americans conformed to such cultural norms. Several writers, members of the so- called "beat generalization", rebelled against conventional values. Their literary work displayed their sense of freedom.

12. 60's Culture
One of the most tumultuous and divisive decades in world history, marked by the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War and antiwar protests, political assassinations and the emerging "generation gap".
Although there was several tragic setbacks, civil rights made an amazing amount of progress, eventually culminating in the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964, which made it illegal to discriminate based on race, color, sex, or national origin.

The hippie culture, which started in the latter half of the 1960's, waned by the early 1970's and faded towards the middle part of the decade, which involved opposition to the Vietnam War, opposition to the nuclear weapons, the advocacy of world peace, and hostility to the authority of government and big business.
70's Culture

14. Hollywood Blacklist-  individuals who were prevented from working in the film industry because of their suspected involvement with Communist interests.
Affirmative Action- programs intended to make up for past discrimination by helping minority groups and women gain access to jobs and opportunities.
Détente- Nixon's policy of a relaxation of tensions between the U.S. And its two major Communist rivals, th eSoviet Union and china. This is a French word meaning an easing of tensions between the world's superpowers.
