The “Core” Activity

2 Part 1 Select a total of three important individuals, groups, or events that you would regard as historically significant. Use either of the following two criteria to justify each of your selections. greatest impact, either positive or negative, on the lives of individuals and groups in a particular time period relate in some way to us, in the present, who are doing the historical thinking.

3 Part 2 React to the reading by recording:
At least three questions you have about the material covered in the reading Reactions you have to the particular events and people (select at least one event and one person) Two particular phrases or sentences which you want to remember- write down the phrase and explain why you selected it- why is the phrase significant? Anything else which comes to mind as you read.

4 Part 3 Select the photo or illustration in these pages that most interests you and write a paragraph that: Describes what you see in the illustration (to describe means to make a person or event come to life thourhg the use of vivid details) Explains why the picture is in this chapter Discusses why the picture interests you.
