1
Photosynthesis! And turns it into
How a plant takes radiant energy from the sun Chemical Energy in the form of glucose
2
What is needed? Sunlight! Water Carbon Dioxide
3
What do I get? Glucose Oxygen
4
Put it all Together
5
Why do I need 6 Carbon Dioxides and 6 Waters?
I need 12 hydrogens and 6 carbons!
6
Why am I doing it? To get out the glucose To get out ATP
To build my cell, store food, get energy To get out ATP The battery pack of the cell
7
What is ATP? Adenosine Triphosphate
8
ATP is like a wallet full of money
9
When I break off the last phosphate, I get energy out
It turns into ADP
10
ADP is like a wallet with no money
11
When I eat food, the last phosphate is added back on and I have a full wallet again
12
Two steps Light Dependent Reaction Light Independent Reaction
AKA Dark Reaction AKA Calvin Cycle
13
Light Dependent Happens in thylakoid
Radiant Energy from the sun is collected by chlorophyll Used to break water into hydrogen and oxygen Oxygen leaves the plant ATP is made NADPH is made This all leaves the thylakoid and moves to the stroma
14
Light Indenpendent Happens in stroma The cell sucks in CO2
The chloroplast uses the Hydrogen (from water), the CO2, the ATP and the NADPH to make a glucose ATP turns to ADP NADPH turns to NADP+ I can use these again!

16
Why is the light independent called the light independent reaction?
17
How does the cell get in the things that it needs for photosynthesis?
