BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS
For students with Attention Challenges

Use student’s names or nonverbal signal to get their attention before giving directions. This works for parents also. "I called you in to talk about your son's attention span, Mr. Sloane. Mr. Sloane? Mr. Sloane?,..

Communicate with students at a language level they can handle.
*Use short sentences. *Pause between sentences if directions are long. *Watch sophistication of vocabulary.

Visual media to teach concepts.
Use auditory PLUS Visual media to teach concepts.

Involve students physically in the learning process whenever possible.
*Manipulative materials *Verbal or written response to concepts being taught.

Alternate group with individual activities and sitting with movement as often as possible throughout the day. Otherwise you too will be getting to know your Principal on a daily basis.

Teach concepts using the following progression:
*Assume NO previous knowledge *Teach concept orally and visually *Check on whether communication occurred. *Ask for response (or give test).

Structure learning tasks SPECIFICALLY.

Use frequent student responses (both group and individual)

Praise frequently, use student name and tell them what they did correctly.

Additional Interventions
Use the following interventions as they CAN be customized into your classroom environment: *Simplify classroom environment *Use a timer for specified time on task *Proximity (shoulder touch technique)
