Democratic voters Republican voters Citizens who favor the adoption of more social programs to address economic and racial inequality, who want government to protect abortion rights and guarantee equal treatment for gay men and lesbians, and who prefer a cautious foreign policy conducted in concert with allies vote for the Democrats. Voters who think that the government is too big and taxes are too high, who long for a return to traditional standards of morality and behavior, and who favor an aggressive foreign policy back the Republican Party.
