4 Alternative Medicine Mind and Body & Manipulative and Body-based Practices: Acupuncture Massage Therapy Meditation Movement Techniques Relaxation Techniques “Acupuncture is a technique in which practitioners stimulate specific points on the body-most often by inserting thin needles through the skin” (NCCAM, 2013). “Massage therapy includes many different techniques in which practitioners manually manipulate the soft tissues of the body” (NCCAM, 2013). Can anyone name some massage therapies? “Most meditation techniques, such as mindfulness meditation or transcendental meditation, involve ways in which a person learns to focus attention” (NCCAM, 2013). “Movement therapies include a broad range of Eastern and Western movement-based approaches; examples include Feldenkrais method, Alexander technique, pilates, Rolfing Structural Integration, and Trager psychophysical integration” (NCCAM, 2013). “Relaxation techniques, such as breathing exercises, guided imagery, and progressive muscle relaxation, are designed to produce the body’s natural relaxation response” (NCCAM, 2013).

Alternative Medicine Guided Imagery Play using media player Guided Meditation ?v=Zh-klfBJlHc These are two examples that can be done in class, to demonstrate Meditation and Relaxation techniques. ***(I had a guided imagery attached but because of the size I have to take it out for the web site or upgrade to pro-I did not want to upgrade at this time.)*** For the future if I want to use the guided imagery, I already have it on my computer so I will know to play it here with this slide, sorry for any issues with this problem.

More Mind and Body & Manipulative and Body-based Practices: Spinal Manipulation Tia chi & qi gong Yoga Healing Touch & hypnotherapy “Spinal manipulation is practiced by health care professionals such as chiropractors, osteopathic physicians, naturopathic physicians, physical therapist, and some medical doctors. Practitioners perform spinal manipulation by using their hands or a devise to apply a controlled force to a joint of the spine.” (NCCAM, 2013). “Tia chi and qi gong are practiced from traditional Chinese Medicine that combine specific movements or postures, coordinated breathing, and mental focus” (NCCAM, 2013). “The various styles of yoga used for health purposes typically combine physical postures or movement, breathing techniques, and meditation” (NCCAM, 2013).
