1 RFQ Cold Model End Flange Cone and Finger Conceptual Design

2 Concept: A hub (blue) slides back and forth in a guide tube (orange) and cannot rotate due to two rods that slide through PTFE bushes (shown inset). The hub can be mounted with either a finger type or a cone type insert.

3 Shown here is the cone version, mounted in it’s hub, (outside of the guide tube for clarity).

4 … and here, a split version of the last model.

5 Cone insert in fully retracted position
Cone insert in fully retracted position. The end of the cone is flush with the external face of the end flange.

6 Cone insert in fully inserted position
Cone insert in fully inserted position. The inside of the cone is touching the vane tip. Note contact between the hub and the 1st tube finger strip is maintained.

7 Shown here is the finger version, mounted in it’s hub, (outside of the guide tube for clarity).

9 Finger insert in fully retracted position
Finger insert in fully retracted position. The ends of the fingers are flush with the internal face of the end flange.

10 Finger insert in fully inserted position
Finger insert in fully inserted position. The finger holder is touching the vane tip.
