3 Mnemonic Devices A system of making something easier to memorize. Ms. Gelston’s classes came up with mnemonic devices for some of our other words. Benevolent- a doer of good Benevolent  Be-not-violent Morose- gloomy Morose Someone who dies gets more roses

4 Mnemonic Devices More Exemplars: Attire-dress Customers dress casually at tire shops. Rampant- Wild I ran, pants down. Depict- represented Dee picked a flag shirt to wear on the 4th of July. After we go thru today’s words I want to see what you can come up with It doesn’t have to have the exact word in it, but close in pronunciation.

6 The lawyer could not officially celebrate his win until he got the approbation report from his client. Approbation noun the expression of approval or favorable opinion; praise, official approval

7 Denzel finally got his opportunity to assuage his desire to be in a book club.
Assuage verb to make easier or milder; to relieve, quiet, calm or satisfy

8 Rodrigo and Rachael decided to form a coalition in order to study for Eocs and Final Exams.
Coalition noun a combination, union or merger for some specific purpose

9 The celebrity’s car was trimmed in real 14k gold and was certainly decadent.
Decadence noun decline, decay or deterioration; excessive self-indulgence

10 The speaker’s job was to elicit anger from his audience so they too would protest. Elicit verb to draw forth, to bring out from a source

11 The counselor did not feel it was his duty to expostulate the student from dropping out of school.
Expostulate verb to attempt to dissuade someone from a decision with reasoning

12 The word love is such a hackneyed phrase that it has somewhat lost it’s profound meaning. Hackneyed adjective used so often that it lacks freshness or originality

13 The music group One Direction decided to go on hiatus while one member explored a solo career. Hiatus noun a gap, opening or break

14 Marco made an innuendo about my soccer ability in front of the entire class! Innuendo noun a hint, indirect suggestion, or reference (often derogatory)

15 People across the country are begging the government to intercede on behalf of the people enslaved in Libya. Intercede verb to plead on behalf of someone else, to serve as the middle-man in a disagreement
