3 Aims of Transition Year
Develop New Skills Working as a Team Maturing for adult & working life Learning how to interact with new people New & varied subjects Allows students to experience subjects for 5th year choices Increased self esteem Project work & development Develop new & long term friendships

4 Why should your child do Transition Year ?
Transition year is seen by many students and parents as a welcomed break to the rote learning and exam obsession that continues to dominate the junior and senior cycles. The whole idea of transition year is to extend the learning environment beyond the classroom. It has to be a hands-on experience.

5 Research Findings ESRI study findings:
A report by the Economic and Social Research Institute showed that students who do transition year tend to score significantly higher points on the Leaving Cert. TY students have a higher grade average in the Leaving Cert exam, with an average CAO points advantage of 25 points or higher. Transition year pupils are more likely to go on to third-level education.

9 Assessment & Evaluation
Continuous Assessment: Project work & presentations Participation in/out of class Interview at Christmas Examinations at end of each module All students receive a full written evaluation at end of work experience 2 Reports over the year. Christmas and summer exams Attendance: In school and on trips Log book: all students reflect on their learning by keeping a Log book. Awards & graduation; May 2019 Distinction -80% and over Merit – 60-80% Pass – 40 – 60%

10 Acceptance into Transition Year
All students will fill out an application form. These forms will be reviewed by TY Coordinators. All applicants are put to the Teaching staff and their suitability is discussed. We will look at a students behavioural, attendance & punctuality record in the school over the past 3 years. If problems arise with a students record, they may be required to attend an interview. Students are informed by the coordinators and a letter of confirmation is sent home. A €100 deposit is required before the end of the school year to secure place. Balance of €160 can be paid in instalments throughout the year.
