2 Independent Maintaining Performance Closed-Loop Long-Term
sustainability 5 Words Sustainability in architecture, is the ability to perform the architecture's design, purpose, function independently and indefinitely without the use of maintenance, outside forces, or failure over time. Sustainability is the idea to maintain the design/performance forever. In architecture, sustainability can be broken down into multifarious components; such as: energy, program, experience, materiality, emotion, etc. By having a "sustainable" energy building, this means that the building itself can self-maintain itself energy-wise by using the same amount of energy and recycling this energy within the building. The design of sustainable energy allows the building to maintain this same regulated amount of energy within the building without having to bring in outside forces, or produce more energy. Sustainability can be mislead to thinking that the subject means to "save" energy in architecture, or to have a "net-zero", or "net-positive" building, yet this is not true. Sure, you can have sustainability by maintaining the same amount of zero energy being used in a net-zero building by keeping it at zero energy, but sustainability in architecture is much, much broader than energy. It is about maintaining. Maintaining not just on the subject of energy, but performance, purpose, function, emotion, experience, etc Independent Maintaining Performance Closed-Loop Long-Term

3 DESIGN CONCEPT Aggregation You can use this space to add a series of diagrams showcasing your concept. Keep the text to the minimum

8 Accessible to all parts of building.
Equity Human scale. Accessible to all parts of building. Various ways of circulation and entry. Façade openings. Strategies Used

9 ACHIEVING THE water PETAL

10 Low flow fixtures and appliances decrease water consumption.
Rainwater is collected on the roof, façade, and on site with constructed wetlands and permeable ground surfaces. Low flow fixtures and appliances decrease water consumption. Gray-water is recycled through the building in a closed-loop system feeding bathrooms, etc. Rain and storm water is filtered through vegetation allowing for use for gray-water inside the building along with irrigation. Strategies Used

11 Natural ventilation through the atrium spaces.
HEALTH AND HAPPINESS Natural ventilation through the atrium spaces. Operable windows for office workers and residence owners. Vegetation and vertical green wall improves air quality. Optimum day lighting for spaces. Strategies Used

12 Solar panels are equipped on the roof and parts of the façade.
ENERGY Passive ventilation allows for cooling of spaces using the atrium voids. The atria allow for maximum heat gain in winter, and less sun exposure in summer. Solar panels are equipped on the roof and parts of the façade. High performance glazing allows for automatic tinting based on the amount of sun exposure. Strategies Used

14 Local materials are used.
No Red List items or materials made with chemicals. Net positive waste. Recycle materials. Strategies Used

15 Education of sustainable systems and classrooms.
BEAUTY Atrium interior space. Education of sustainable systems and classrooms. Annual open day for public. Interpretive signage teaching various parts of the building. Strategies Used
