HIGH SCHOOL WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?
* Bigger School * Opportunity for more friendships * Sports/Clubs * Locker * Cafeteria * More subjects More teachers School Day = 8:22 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. * Semester System - 4 subjects from Sept. to Jan. - 4 subjects from Feb. to June * Exams - do not book holidays during those days! * 4 period day including a 40 minute lunch * Classes are 75 minutes in length Uniform

Complete 12 additional elective credits. Note: The religion credit taken each year counts towards these 12 credits.

ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA
Pass the Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) Based on reading and writing expectations in all subjects up to and including Grade 9 Written in March/April of Grade 10 year. The OSSLT date is fixed for every student in the province. Do not book holidays on this date!!

Complete 40 hours of Community Service (students can begin the summer prior to entering Gr. 9) Develop an understanding of civic responsibility Develop a sense of worth Develop skills Develop work related skills Develop self-confidence Discover your strengths and talents Discover the world of work

WHAT ARE THE CHOICES? Locally Developed? Applied? Academic?
Questions to consider: How does the student learn? Where does the student want to go after high school? Key point: Go with the Grade 8 teacher’s recommendation!
