Microsoft Commercial: “Estella’s Brilliant Bus”
Explained by Mrs. West
3
Ethos We trust the commercial and want to keep watching it because we know that Microsoft is a very well-known and credible company. It is a forerunner in creating innovative products in technology.
4
PAthos The primary rhetorical device used is pathos because it shows mostly young children of color who are probably from urban (inner city) schools where they don’t have access to computers in their schools. A bus full of technology along with an instructor who CARES for these students comes to them. You briefly feel SADNESS that their lives may be affected by the lack of technology and access to it in school, but then you feel HAPPY and EXCITED for such a great opportunity for them. Their EAGER selves and SMILES make the audience feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Besides, who doesn’t want to make every child’s dreams come true?
5
logos There is some logos in the fact that Estella comes to the schools in her “brilliant bus” to provide a technology learning opportunity for these kids. We also know that technology is the wave of the future for the young generation so it is logical to make them knowledgeable in the use of technology, even if it means bringing it to them.

How Persuasive Was this commercial?
On a scale of 1-5, I would say that this commercial ranked a 5 on the persuasion scale. As a mom and teacher, I feel that all children should have every opportunity possible so I am in favor of making opportunities possible for children who especially need them like the ones in the commercial. Also, I think a technology bus is a great idea!
