Social How do people group themselves in society ?(gender roles, social classes) Political How does the society govern itself? Interactions between humans & the environment How do humans adapt to their environmental conditions? (physical structures, agriculture, technology, resources) Cultural How do people express their values and customs? (traditions, language, religion, institutions, education, ceremonies, etc.) Economic How is wealth distributed? What is considered “wealth?”

How do historians analyze civilizations?
Goal: Create a civilization using the lenses through which historians analyze civilizations. Task: With your assigned team, you will create a civilization based upon the provided social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental guiding questions. You will use the graphic organizer to display this information about your civilization. Think critically: you are seeking to create an complex civilization.

Discussion What were our most commonly confused categories? How can we remember what each of these terms means? What makes a civilization “complex”? Were any of our civilizations complex? Why or why not? Is “complex” objective or subjective? Objective: characteristic is determined by specific facts/criteria Subjective: characteristic is determined by the analysis of the observer
