What does it mean to be RESILIENT?
Definition: able to continue to function in the face of challenging circumstances due to climate change, and to recover quickly from disruptions. Being resilient means being able to adapt. Historically, the dialog on climate change action has been about mitigation. However, we’re challenging ourselves to think differently about how we deal with and move forward with climate change, which is happening now.

Grasstops/ Leaders Community Leadership Workshop New community partners Grassroots/ Community Outreach #ResilientLB Outreach Booth Goal of Climate Resilience Program is to make Long Beach the model of a climate resilient city. The Aquarium has a broad spectrum of program that reaches various levels of our city, which we’ve broadly categorized as: Grasstops (Reaching activated community leaders) and Grassroots (Reaching out to the community)

#ResilientLB Outreach Booth
Keep an eye out for the #ResilientLB Outreach Booth at a community event near you. Thanks to support from a Whale Tail Grant, the #ResilientLB booth is touring community events throughout Long Beach. Join in on the conversation with us; we are talking about what we love most about Long Beach and how we can work together to protect it. If you’re interested in including the booth at your event, us at The Resilient LB booth toured events across Long Beach throughout the year, reaching more than 500 groups of participants at twelve events, representing almost 50 hours of programming. Some of the events we’ve participated in: First Friday Beach Streets District Late Night Veteran’s Day Parade I Dig LB Tree Planting Affordable Housing Talk MLK Jr Day Parade 30 min Beach Clean Up Family Science Night Mardi Gras

Gathering public knowledge: What are the shared values of our community? What are the shared aspirations of our community? How can we protect these values and achieve these aspirations?

My aspirations for my community are… The challenges we face in reaching these aspirations are… The changes needed in my community to reach our aspirations are… The core of climate resilience is building community around shared values, and then starting to think about solutions that can protect the things we cherish about our city.
