(the broken fragments of other
rocks).
These sediments are transported,
deposited and eventually
Compacted and cemented
together. This is called lithification.

Clastic rocks are composed of fragments, or clasts, of pre-existing rock.

(also called organic)
are composed of organic debris such as plants (lignite, coal) or shells (coquina, fossiliferous limestone).

made up from rock fragments that are chemical in origin and formed from minerals that were once dissolved in water.
