New mandate from synergies decision & modernization of BC
Currently Late and incomplete reports Too many manual steps to publish data provided by the Parties on the website Objectives of the new electronic reporting systems (ERS) Streamline BC reporting with the Stockholm reporting Reduce the burden of Parties to fill-in national reports Ability to see trends of quantitative data Be flexible to accommodate changes on questions/tables Reduce number of manual steps to process data
14
New Electronic Reporting Systems (ERS)
Based on Feedback Server, which is a survey management tool ERS for BC and SC are customized versions of Feedback Server surveys Two independent surveys Pre-filled data from previous cycles Each country gets a group of passwords One for the official contact point/focal point submitter Multiple for the supporting officers who cannot submit
15
New Electronic Reporting Systems (ERS) – cont.
Users can fill-in data, save progress and continue later Import data from excel – pre-defined formats Automatic data validation rules Flexibility to update data after submission Printing the report Linked to other system (e.g. focal points database, agreements, national definitions, etc) Advanced reports

Future plans Launch for both systems planned for August 2013
Webinars to train officers in the second half of 2013

Data visualization tool on quantitative data
Available on the Basel Convention website Developed in collaboration with the United Nations Office at Geneva – IT group Based on Flash technology Uses data as provided by Parties on generation, import and export of hazardous wastes and other wastes (after quality control by the Secretariat)
