1 THE GOOD AND BAD AT MAKERERE UNIVERSITY

2 SECURITY Makerere University is home to a fully-fledged Police Station with officers of the Uganda Police Force who regularly patrol the campus. The Police Officers work closely with Campus Security personnel to maintain law and order as well as man security checks at the campus and building entrances. There are security checkpoints at most of the gates entering the university Security officers on duty

3 Well stocked library The Main Library currently has nine sections namely: Technical Services, Periodicals/Serials, Reference and Circulation (including the Law collection and IDA/Basic textbook Reserve collection), Africana Section, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Microfilming and Digitisation, Book Bank and Bindery. 4 Access to banking facilities
Makerere university has atleast all bank branches within campus. This simplifies the withdraw and deposit of students’ finances. It is also intended to reduce the tendencies of tuition loss due to conmen. DFCU bank, Makerere branch Stanbic bank, Makerere branch

5 Better infrastructure
Makerere has very good infrastructure. This includes the better equipped buildings, walkways, roads, among others. The main gate under construction The senate building

6 Co-curricular activities.
Makerere is not only concerned with academics, but also co-curricular activities like sports and entertainment. This helps students to have healthy minds in a healthy body. Cultural competitions Students showing talent during the cultural gala Students singing

7 Leisure activities Makerere university has grounds for leisure activities within campus for example the playground, swimming pool, netball pitch, among others. Students during their leisure time The swimming pool

8 Academic excellence. Makerere’s performance isn’t debated upon. Makerere university has a good academic history in Uganda and Africa at large. Makerere ranked 4th in Africa, 2016 Makerere ranked 2nd in east Africa

9 Access to worshipping centres.
Makerere doesn’t discriminate among religions. There are worshipping places for all religions within campus premises. St. Augustine chapel For Catholics The mosque

10 Residences Accomodation is really available at Makerere given the numerous number of residential halls. Moreso, there are enough hostels to accommodate students. Lumumba hall Mitchel hall

11 THE BAD THINGS AT MAKERERE
Like any institution, Makerere some few negative things. These include;

12 Strikes The continous strikes at Makerere are making the image of the university unpopular. Students only resort to strikes in case they feel cheated for example, unfair policies. Students striking Police firing teargas at the students

13 Why strikes? We have seen strikes at Makerere where students vandalize buildings, cars, and neighbouring shops or kiosks and these are the brains of the nation! This is setting a bad precedency to students and those who look at us as role models since whatever we do has an impact on the society. * failure to use alternative means. *love for being notorious. *unfair administrative policies

14 Poor facilities. Some faculties are really poor hence need renovation.

15 Delay of services At Makerere, getting a service is really a struggle, for example online marks, IDs, transcripts, among others. A queue of students awaiting to receive their university IDs

16 Sex for marks Sex scandals at Makerere university are ruining the image of the university. Students offer sex to lecturers for marks. Student- lecturer sexual interaction

17 Unfair policies The continous strikes are due to unfair policies from the administration for example, tuition increment, poor sanitation, delay of marks, among others. Students demonstrating over poor policies
