I am a second year teacher here at Joseph S. Stackhouse Elementary school. I graduated from Rowan University with Dual majors in Early Childhood Education and Literacy Studies as well as with the 2 endorsements of Teaching Reading and Teaching Students with Disabilities. I believe in giving each student in my room the tools that they need to succeed in a positive environment where they can feel safe and ready to learn. I love to read, and can often be found with a book in my hand when I am not running, drawing, dancing, or working on new ideas for the classroom. I am looking forward to a great year! Class Dojo App and Website We will be using Class Dojo as a classroom management and communication tool in this classroom. Students can earn points for showing various positive skills we are promoting Students can lose points for skills and behaviors we want to limit A direct and easy way to communicate with me A way for me to post reminders to the entire group on the stories feature Teacher Conferences Teacher Conferences will run November 16 & 17, 20 & 21. Character Education At Stackhouse, we want our students to not just grow in academics but also in character. We have five character traits, or core values, we will be teaching and excepting our students to demonstrate! Stackhouse Elementary School /18 Class Expectations and Rules - Treat everyone with respect - - Work together as a team - - Take responsibility for your choices - Always try your hardest – Consequence Steps First offense: Verbal warning Second offense: Clip down and 5 minutes off recess Third offense: Second Clip down and 10 minutes off recess Fourth offense: Third clip down, all recess lost, parent contact Fifth offense: Sent to the office, student behavior referral written, parent contact Homework Homework is the responsibility of the student! Homework is written every day in the student’s agenda Every night the students will bring home their homework folder and agenda I will assign homework on most school nights. Over the weekend, students are required to read for ATLEAST 20 minutes and record it in their reading logs Homework is due the next day, unless otherwise noted Overview of 3rd Grade Curriculum Reading Phonics- Use word parts to help in reading and writing new words, recognize base words and remove prefixes and suffixes to break them down to decode Vocabulary- Uses high frequency words, recognize multiple meanings or words, figurative language, and applies new words Comprehension- Identifies story elements and types of text, can compare and contrast, retell key details and draw conclusions Writing Ideas- Writes daily, stays focused on the topic, ideas are clear and well developed with appropriate pacing Organization- has a logical sequence, contains a beginning, middle and end, and uses transition words Word Choice- uses wide range of verbs, strong adjectives, and nouns Sentence Fluency- complete, smooth and natural sentences Conventions- Proper use of capitalization, punctuation, and correct spelling of high frequency words Math Operations & Algebraic Thinking Operations in Base Ten Fractions Measurement and Data Geometry Science How living things function in the Environment Earth’s Surface The Earth in Space Matter, Energy, and Change Social Studies Communities and Geography over time and today People in Communities Citizens and Government Grade Scale A 100% – 92 % B 91% - 83% C 82% - 74% D 73% - 65% F Below 64% Grade Breakdown Classwork & Quizzes = 60% Tests and Projects = 30% Homework = 10% 125 Trenton Rd.
