9 Why Pray? God’s will 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. - I Timothy 2:3-4

10 Why Pray? God’s way 5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. - I Timothy 2:5-6

11 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. - I Timothy 2:7

12 Instructions on Conduct
Men Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. - I Timothy 2:8

14 Culture vs. Command Conservative Mainline Progressive Liberal

15 Culture vs. Command Examples
Foot Washing Cultural form to show welcome, brotherhood, respect, love.

16 Culture vs. Command Examples
Baptism Borrowed cultural thing personalized by Jesus Remains a basic command of Jesus and Apostles Conservative ← Command / Cultural → Liberal

17 34 The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says. 35 If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church. - I Corinthians 14:34-35

18 36 Was it from you that the word of God first went forth
36 Was it from you that the word of God first went forth? Or has it come to you only? 37 If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord’s commandment. - I Corinthians 14:36-37

19 9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. - I Timothy 2:9-10

20 What are they to “look like”
Women in the Church What are they to “look like” Covered with good deeds Modest in attitude and appearance

21 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
- I Timothy 2:11

22 Attitude while learning
Women in the Church Attitude while learning Quiet – attitude of mind Spirit of gentleness and humility Submissive – learning with an intention of applying

23 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
- I Timothy 2:12

24 APPOSITION Two words that refer to the something or person (I prayed to the Lord Jesus)

25 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve
13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. - I Timothy 2:13-14

26 Why command and not culture?
Man created first – vs. 13 Women sinned first – vs. 14 Man and women’s roles in the church reflect the eternal model established by God.

27 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. - I Timothy 2:15
