Computed tomographic scan taken at day one of life shows symmetrical linear subcortical calcification of the frontal lobes. The lateral thalamus also shows marked calcification. The gyration appears simplified. The computed tomographic scans were adjusted using the levels and sharpen tools of Photoshop.

Histologic section of the frontal lobe cortex and white matter shows extensive neuronal and white matter loss, poor myelination, and extensive calcification (arrows) at the gray-white junction seen as coarse purple bodies (A, taken at 4× magnification). The thalamus shows a large amount of calcification, seen as coarse purple bodies (B, taken at 10× magnification). Both slides: Hematoxylin, eosin, and luxol fast blue stain.
