Units of Measurement

Base Units Length =_______________ Mass = _________________
Time = _________________ Temperature = ________________ Electric Current = ______________ Amount of Substance = __________
3
What Units do Scientists Use When Measuring Quantities?
The International System (SI). Otherwise known as the Metric System. Why would scientists not use the English system (inches, feet, miles, pounds)? - It is not internationally universal.
4
What about other Base Units?
Area? Use a derived unit… How do you find the area of a rectangle? A=l x w Length and width are each measured in meters. So if you multiply one meter by another meter, you will get meters squared.
5
Example of a Derived Unit.
Area of a rectangle 5 meters (m) by 4 meters (m). A= 5m x 4m 5 x 4 = 20 m x m = m squared. A=20 square meters
