Lab (Books) Mrs. Kline’s Column October 29 – November 2 2018 Things to Note… Please look over the Homework Practice Log for what is strongly encouraged to be focused on at home this week. Please keep math fact flash cards at home. Additional cards will come home throughout the year. Please check the home practice log to see when new cards are on the way! Please be sure to check dates for ECO CLUB and SCIENCE EXPLORERS if your child is a participant. Be sure to return books on Library and Technology days and have sneakers for days we have P.E. and Health All Fundations Unit Packets are to be kept at home for continued practice, even after a unit is completed. Skills spiral back through multiple units. It’s that time again…if disinfecting wipes are on sale, we are in need of donations! :) THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO! Dates to Remember/ News/Upcoming Events Monday 10/29 – Chick Fil A Calendar Sale begins. This runs through 11/9! Wednesday 10/31 – Halloween – Please send your child’s costume to school in a bag with all parts labeled with your child’s name. Students will need sneakers for Health. Sunday 11/4 – SET BACK CLOCKS 1 HOUR! Monday 11/5 – APT Meeting 7-8pm in the Library Tuesday 11/6 – Fall Photo RETAKE Day Wed 11/7 – School Store Mrs. Kline’s Contact Information Ext. 4118 Language Arts: Phonics Focus – This week students will continue their work with “bonus” letters. They will be introduced to the sound made when the letters a-l-l are at the end of a one syllable word. Examples are ball, call, and fall. We will work on including this week’s trick words in sentences as well; please remember that “trick words” are not sounded out, but rather remembered as if by sight. Trick words for this week: was, one & said. Writing Focus – This week students will complete their end of quarter writing assessment. We will work on writing class stories that include details to help to make our writing appeal to the senses after the assessment is complete. Literature Connection: The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano Math: This week students will get to practice sorting by common attributes by creating a shape poster; they will share their reasoning for how they grouped the shapes together and discuss it with peers. We will construct and draw triangles of different types and sizes and do the same for quadrilaterals when they are introduced later in the week. Our Academic Agenda
