Mrs. Kline’s Contact Information Ext. 4118 Language Arts: Phonics Focus – This week we will begin unit 3 of Fundations! Students will be learning about “digraphs” which are groups of letters that ‘stick together’ and make just 1 sound. Examples are /wh/, /ch/, /sh/, /th/, and /ck/. New trick words are continuing to be introduced; please remember that these words are not sounded out, but rather remembered as if by sight. Trick words for this week: as, has, to, into. Writing Focus – This week students will complete their writing about what they want to be when they grow up and also begin writing about what they like to do with their friends. We are remaining focused on capitalizing letters at the beginning of sentences, placing periods at the end, rereading their writing to check to see that it makes sense, and relating illustrations to their writing as best they can. Literature Connection: When I Was Five by Arthur Howard Math: This week students will continue working on representing and solving problems involving subtraction. We will subtract one number from another with initial amounts up to 12. We will use standard notation (- and =) to represent subtraction situations and subtract 1 or 2 from numbers up to 10. Students will notice that the difference between the same two numbers is the same amount regardless of context. We will also practice the rote counting sequence, forward and backward, starting from any number (1 to 30). Our Academic Agenda
