Read my notes under each question
1.1.7 Practice Read my notes under each question Most of this practice activity has the answers in the questions.
2
Question 1 Explain whether or not this comparison is accurate.
Yes or no question Why did you pick yes or no (big picture reason) Justify your response Give two support answers, this is your time to be specific. One about the hypothalamus & the thermostat If you don’t remember negative feedback go back into your book chapter 29 section 6.
3
Question 2 Describe the effects of the mutations on the thermal stability of the wild-type enzyme. Make sure you describe what the mutation does. Justify how the mutation affects the enzyme. Analyze the data to rank the four in order from least heat-stable to most heat-stable. Rank the mutants from least heat-stable to most heat-stable. Tertiary structure of enzymes can be found on page 45 in chapter 3 section 2. Enzyme shape can be found in chapter 3 section 4 on page 53.
4
Question 3 Predict whether these two scenarios can be expected to yield the same results. Predict what will happen to the ripening rate Explain your reasoning. Explain what happens to the ethylene build up This whole question is answered through the sceniaro.
5
Question 4 (A) Predict the type of cells that will be activated by calcitonin. Does it activate osteoblasts or osteoclasts? Predict the type of cells that will be inhibited by calcitonin. Does it inhibit osteoblasts or osteoclasts? Justify your responses. Explain your answers and reference how it maintains homeostasis. Homeostasis is discussed throughout chapter 29 starting in section 3, page 610.

Question 4 (B) Refine the diagram
You will use the same picture from part A but add the mechanisms that triggers the changes in bone-cell activity. Include where this takes place Include the hormone Include the activation & inhibition
7
Question 5 (A) Analyze the data in the graph.
Describe the difference between the control group & experimental groups. Explain which experimental group has the most gene expression. Explain the mechanism of evolution of this process. How does this process shows evolution of the pine tree? This answer comes right from the question sceniario.
8
Question 5 (B) Draw a diagram on how information flows among the pine tree, wasp and larvae. Show 3 boxes and arrows of movement between the organisms. Explain the internal changes taking place for each organism. Explain what is taking place for each organism inside of the boxes. This question can be answered using the question.
9
Question 6 Describe how information moves between organisms in this example. Explain what the results of this experiment suggest about reproductive success. Will the female select the smaller or larger male? Why would she choose this male? How does that relate to evolution. How can this relate to evolutionary success? All of the information is based off of the question and evolution. The female wants to have the best chance at surviving and producing the most offspring, which male will give her this opportunity?
