What’s the work happening here? Math and ELA--and with our assessment data readily available as we met collaboratively our teachers could focus--not on trying to figure out the data--which we had been doing for 5 years--but have focused discussions on instructional strategies they could use for all students-- this was a shift from reactions to the data-- to letting data drive instruction. ELA/Math 1st Benchmark Results
Collaborative Team Discussions Teams Take Action Reteaching Differentiating Creating FAs The focus became collective teacher efficacy (collectively, we can all have a positive influence on our students)--intentional work--and with collaboratively created assessment data and MMD--it made our work possible and meaningful.

ELA Curriculum Coordinator Perspective

How do we differentiate texts and assessments? Now what? Next steps? What’s been wonderful is that MMD supported the work we were already doing--and it help us differentiate for our teachers--what did they need? Time/encouragement/support. It’s not one-more thing--it’s about supporting what you are doing in collaborative teams. Walk/work with them

ELA Curriculum Coordinator Perspective
Bridging--sharing ideas between buildings--what’s worked instructionally--discussions about progressions grade level to grade level--lab classrooms--allowing teachers to “see” what differentiation can look like (see it, hear it, imagine it)--which also gave teachers time to problem solve, share ideas in a safe environment where there’s effective meeting structures(agenda, norms, roles, etc) in place, and then at April 3rd--World Cafe--allowing collaborative teams to share strategies and celebrate successes. ELA World Cafe PD Lab Classrooms

8th Grade ELA Teacher Perspective
Collaborative Teaming Our Process Communication and Reflection Student Success Most important part of process is establishing effective collaborative teams. My building team has been working together for over six years. Also a part of a district curriculum writing team for that time. This culture existed, we had supportive administration, so our next natural move was to start working more intentionally with data. Where to start--baby steps. Used assessment data to identify one skill to work on--central idea. Began with conversation on how we have taught it in past/how we could teach it differently. Long conversation. Focus on good Tier 1 instruction. MMD allowed us to have an opportunity to have these conversations. Able to talk RTI. Utilized sped teacher in our team--helped with struggling learners. Conversations about how we can push those who have mastered skill. Utilized leveled texts and flexible grouping. Throughout process, we reflect-- between classes, at lunch, after school. Open classroom to others (administrators/coordinators). Quickly make adjustments--always working to help students grow. Temperature checks from students-their voice matters. Benefits all learners. (high and low socio-economics). Students saw their success and celebrated it. Significant student growth on central idea . Moving forward--continue to work data driven decisions into what we normally do--one step at a time.
