1 Divisors , factors and Multiples

2 Divisors All the numbers which divide a given number leaving 0 as remainder are called divisors of the number. For example, the number 24 has several divisors. 24 = 1 x 24 24 = 2 x 12 24 = 3 x 8 24 = 4 x 6 SO, the divisors are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24

3 Finding Divisors Start with 1 x the number. Try 2, 3, 4, etc.
When you repeat your divisors, cross out the repeat - you’re done at this point. If you get doubles (such as 4 x 4), then you’re done. Repeats or doubles let you know you’re done.

4 What are the divisors of 16?
1 x 16 2 x 8 3 x ?? 3 is not a divisor, so cross it out 4 x 4 doubles = done The divisors of 16 are 1,2,4,8,16

5 What are the divisors of 18?
1 x 18 The factors are 1,2,3,6,9,18 2 x 9 3 x 6 4 x ?? 5 x ?? 6 x 3 Repeat! Cross it out! We’re done!

6 Factors The divisors of number other than 1 and itself are called factors of a number. For example, the num 30 has several factors. 30 = 1 x 30 30 = 2 x 15 30 = 3 x 10 30 = 5 x 6 SO, the factors are 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15 For factor we are not including 1 and the number itself

7 What are the factors of 28? 1 x 28 2 x 14 4 x 7 5 x ?? 6 x ?? 7 x 4
For factor we are not including 1 and the number itself 2 x 14 4 x 7 5 x ?? 6 x ?? 7 x 4 Repeat! Cross it out! We’re done! The factors of 28 are 2,4,7,14

8 Difference between divisor and factor
Factor just like divisor include all numbers which divide a given number except number 1 and itself. Example1 Divisors of 10 is 1 , 2 , 5 , 10 Therefore factors of 10 is 1 , 2 , 5 , 10 All divisor except number 1 and 10 Example2 Divisors of 12 is 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 6 , 12 Therefore factors of 12 is 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 6 , 12 All divisor except number 1 and 12

9 Multiples A multiple is formed by multiplying a given number by the counting numbers. The counting numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.

10 Example: List the multiples of 4:
So, the multiples of 4 are 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, etc. Counting Numbers

11 What are the first five multiples of 13?
13 x 1 =13 13 x 2 = 26 13 x 3 = 39 13 x 4 = 52 13 x 5 = 65 13, 26, 39, 52, 65

12 Find the Missing Multiples
24 30 6, 12, 18, ____, ____ ___, 6, 9, 12, ____, ____, 21 ___, 24, 36, 48, 60, ____ 15 18 3 72 12

13 Try these Find the divisors of number 15 Find factors of number 24
