2 United I. S. D. Standardized Dress Policy FNCA (LOCAL) STUDENT CONDUCT: DRESS CODE Purpose: The Districts dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards and teach respect for authority.

Reasons for Standardized Dress Successful Implementation at the Elementary, Middle and High School Level; Parental Request; Increase in safety and security at the campus; Easily identify students who should be on the campus Help prevent gangs from forming on campus Improvement in student self-esteem Lessen peer pressure; Diminish economic and social barriers among students. Increase a sense of belonging and school pride/spirit. Improve student discipline and focus on school work; Possibly lessen clothing expenses for parents. 3

4 State Laws/Policies Texas Education Code Section 11.162: (b) The rules the board of trustees adopts must designate a source of funding that shall be used in providing uniforms for students at the school who are educationally disadvantaged.

5 Shirts and Blouses in navy and white (High School color options) Pants, Skirts, Shorts, Skorts, Capris, Jumpers and Dresses in khaki, navy and black Jackets, cardigans and sweatshirts with or without hood/hoodie must have buttons or zippers. No pullover sweatshirts are allowed. These garments are acceptable in any color; however, the hood/hoodie will not the allowed to be worn inside the school building. 7 SHIRTS / BLOUSES Sleeves and collars are required on shirts/blouses Turtlenecks shall be allowed All shirts/blouses, and turtlenecks/ undershirts must be tucked in at all times Snaps/zippers on shirts are not allowed Manufacturers logos/trademarks should not be larger than 1 inch

8 PANTS, CAPRIS, SHORTS Pockets of pants, capris, shorts must be the standard front pockets Attire must fit well and not be oversized Attire with belt loops requite belts for students in grades 3 rd through 12 th

9 Skirts, Shorts, Skorts, Jumpers, Dresses Only khaki, navy blue or black is allowed Garments must be appropriately sized and worn at the waist Belts must be worn with garments with belt loops A garment may be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee

10 Outerwear All sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters and cardigans must be worn over a standard dress-approved shirt/blouse. Outerwear garments are acceptable in any color and may or may not have hood/hoodie; however, they must have buttons or zippers. No pullover sweatshirts with or without hoods will be allowed. The hood/hoodie will not be allowed to be worn inside the school building. Official letterman jackets, school jackets, and school logos on outerwear garments are permitted provided such jackets or logos correspond with the school in which such garments are worn.

Outerwear V-Neck Sweaters, Crew Neck Sweaters and Sweater Vests are allowed in Navy Blue, white, or Designated High School color. Must be worn over a standard dress approved shirt/blouse, must be solid color and Must be appropriately sized at shoulders, sleeves and length.

15 ALLOWED Leggings/tights are allowed under attire that meets uniform specifications. Leggings/tights may only be solid navy, black or white

Dress Guide Lines Appropriate Uniform Bottoms: Pants, Capris - Khaki, Navy, Black / Casual - Must be solid color *Must fit at waist and not sag, pockets must be standard front pockets, if it has belt loops, a belt must be worn students in grades 3rd-12 th. If it has belt loops, a belt must be worn for students in grades 3rd-12 th. Length of Jumper/Dress cannot be shorter than 3 inches above the knee. Slits on garments cannot be shorter than 3 inches above the knee (front & back). Leggings/Tights - Navy, Black or White Must be solid color, must be worn under standard dress approved uniform Belt - Any Color, must be worn at the waist for students in grades 3rd-12th

Application Process Student(s) must be active United ISD students in order to recieve voucher Parent Must bring picture I.D. Must bring a valid proof of income such as Current Check stub Current TANF or Food Stamp Award Letter with amount of assistance W-2 Form/Tax Return Filled out application
