PROCESS Load model. Select STL file.
Import STL file into the Cura programme. Reduce/increase scale. Change orientation. Press the button lay-flat to secure the model to the platform. Add support structure and brim to the model. Choose the material to use (ABS). Set the temperature to 240˚C. Wait for temperature to reach 240˚C before inserting the plastic materials into the machine. Press extrude to clean out the nozzle. Start the printing process.

PROBLEMS Our models were not watertight.
Too many polygons were used in post-processing, resulting in very high resolution images, that needed too much rendering. We set the model to print in high detail, and would not work properly. The ABS plastic was not sticking well and was catching on the nozzle. The ABS material is not great for intricate designs. The cleaning pad on the Lulzbot machine was faulty.
7
SOLUTIONS We made the models watertight in the Meshmixer.
We reduced the polygon count using decimation in Meshmixer. We changed the setting in Cura to standard print, instead of high detail, because the ABS material is not suitable for intricate details. We cleaned the nozzle in Lulzbot and also changed the cleaning pad.
