4. Essential Cellular Processes
Photosynthesis
Plants use light energy (like sunlight) to combine carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) to make simple sugars (C6H12O6), which are then stored in the vacuole or used.
Plants release oxygen gas (O2).
Occurs in the chloroplast.

5. Cellular Processes Continued
Respiration
All plants and animals break down simple sugars (C6H12O6) into carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) and release energy, which is used to build, repair, and reproduce cells.
Occurs in the mitochondria of cells.

Waste Elimination
Rid the cell of products that could be harmful to it
Waste moves from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration (diffusion)
