Timeline New student dress code takes effect on the first day of school.

Bohemia Manor High School has three primary responsibilities with respect to students. The first responsibility is to foster academic achievement. The second responsibility is to create and maintain a school environment that is safe, orderly, and conducive for learning. The third responsibility is to promote and support positive community standards and values as civility, respect to others, self-respect, citizenship and other constructive character traits and behaviors. Without these, teaching and learning will be negatively impacted. Therefore, BMHS has deemed the following clothing types and styles inappropriate for school: Our responsibiliti es

Shirt Policy Shirts/Blouses should be constructed so that the top of the shoulder is covered with at least a two inch strap and has a standard size armhole. Spaghetti straps, tube tops, halter tops, single strap tops, backless tops, muscle shirts, and tank tops are unacceptable.

Shirts/Blouses must NOT show inappropriate necklines that expose cleavage, low back lines, midriffs, or undergarments. NO BARE SKIN is to be exposed at the waist, chest or abdomen area. Necklines cannot be lower than the straight line from the top of the underarm across to the opposite underarm. Shirt Policy (continued)

Shirts/tops that reveal cleavage, are low cut, show midriff, or are backless are unacceptable. Plunging Neckline Exposed Midriff Backless

Shorts/Pants/Skirts Policy Shorts/ Skorts can be no shorter than 5 inches above the top of the knee while standing. (Length of a 3 X 5 index card) Skirts and dresses can be no shorter than 3 inches above the top of the knee while standing. (Width of a 3 X 5 index card) Leggings & tights may only be worn with skirts, shorts, or dresses that meet the minimum 3 X 5 requirement. No clothing that is to be worn as an UNDERGARMENT shall be visible while wearing pants, jeans, shorts, skirts, skorts, or sweatpants All bottom attire must be worn at waist level.

Other Unacceptable Apparel Costumes, pajamas or slippers Head wear (except for religious or medical reasons) to include, but not limited to hats, caps, hoods, wave caps, sweatbands, bandannas, scarves, picks, and combs. Sunglasses (prescription required)

Pajamas and slippers are not permitted to be worn in school.

Hoods Hoodies are fine, however, students may NOT wear the hoods during school hours.

Sunglasses Sunglasses may NOT be worn on the face or head during school hours, unless outside.

Any article of clothing which displays obscene words, pictures or designs, any article which conveys a sexually suggestive, vulgar, demeaning or inflammatory remark, a pro-alcohol message, a tobacco and or drug related message, or is symbolic of gangs or disruptive groups. Shoes Policy Shoes MUST be worn at all times. Athletic shoes MUST be worn for physical education classes, and closed toed shoes may be required by the teacher for protection in certain educational settings. (Example: Science Lab) Footwear must fit securely enough to the foot for safe movement, have a hard or rubber sole, and not have such a high heel as to cause concern for safe movement. Body piercings may not be worn in classes where they are a safety or performance issue. ITEMS NOT SPECIFICALLY COVERED IN THE ABOVE POLICY MAY BE PROHIBITED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE ADMINISTRATION.

1 st Violation: Student conference with administrator to discuss the violation and review the dress code. Parent contact by the administrator to discuss the violation of the policy and subsequent consequences should more violations occur. Change of clothing to rectify violation. Student placed in MIP until appropriate clothing is secured. 2 nd Violation: Parent contact by the administrator Change of clothing to rectify violation. Student placed in MIP until appropriate clothing is secured. Student will serve a full day in MIP. 3 rd Violation: Parent contact by the administrator. Change of clothing to rectify violation. Student placed in MIP until appropriate clothing is secured. Student will receive a pending suspension. Student will not be able to return to school until a parent conference has been held. 4 th Violation: Parent contact by administrator. Change of clothing to rectify violation. Student placed in MIP until appropriate clothing is secured. Student will receive an out of school suspension for blatant disregard for school policy. Consequences for Violating the Dress Code Policy
