1 Zool World 6 – Level 3 Hello everyone. I’m Dan Brennan, and welcome to my Zool presentation.

2 Zool is the game we are working on, which is a reimagining of a series of 16-bit 2D platform games. The first Zool game was released on a number of different consoles, and at the time, it was one of the best-selling games for the Commodore Amiga Due to it’s success, a sequel was eventually made, called Zool 2. In Zool 2, players could take control of either Zool himself, or his female companion Zooz. Both games were sponsored by Chupa Chups. What is Zool?

3 What I have been asked to do
Level 3 in World 6 My job is to create the third platform level in World 6 on our Zool game. It is my job to model all the assets, implement them into the blocked-out area, and texture everything. My level shall be ice-themed, and will have more machinery towards the end of it, leading onto one of my peers’ levels. All these levels will be modelled in Autodesk Maya and brought into the Unity engine for testing and adding coding, lighting etc. to them.

4 Gantt Chart 06/02/2013 27/06/2013 We are here Preproduction Production
Postproduction Here is a gantt chart showing how far we are into the project since we started it.

5 Game Overview 7 Worlds 3 Platforming levels in each world Bonus stages
Boss battle The game will take place across 7 worlds with roughly 3 platforming levels, a bonus stage and a boss stage in them. Before the first world, the player will take part in a tutorial level to get to grips with the controls, which will take place in the Nth Dimension (Zool’s homeland).

6 Backstory On his way back to the Nth Dimension in his spaceship, Zool receives a distress signal from a nearby planet. As he travels to said planet to investigate, our hero is shot down by an unknown enemy, and crash lands. It is then up to Zool to find out who is terrorising the planet, and to eliminate them in order save the inhabitants. But it will not be so easy, as the true mastermind behind this invasion is none other than Zool’s arch nemesis, Krool.

7 Story of the Level As Zool goes deeper and deeper into the icy cave on his way to Krool’s headquarters, he will have to fight more mechanical minions while going down a river on a small iceberg-like raft. Eventually he goes down a long slippery slide, trying to dodge all the broken machinery in the way (which are pipes, cogs sticking out of the ice and broken electrical wires).

8 The Hook The original Zool games aimed towards fast-paced action/platforming gameplay. We are trying to capture the same experience these games offered, and bring it into 3D, with new features such as Zool being able to use both his trusty gun and sword. What makes my level particularly interesting is how more and more machinery is visible the further you get into the cave. The iceberg raft will be fun to traverse on, as enemies will be shooting at the player as he tries to avoid falling off while shooting back at the enemies. Even more action-packed than that is the slide near the end of the level, which is full of dangerous mechanical obstacles that will test the player’s reflexes.

9 Genre 3D Platformer Action Adventure
Our Zool game is a 3D platformer, which will contain elements of action and adventure. This game would fall under the same category as games like Ratchet & Clank and Banjo Kazooie, only it shall be more linear in its level design.

10 Target Audience This game will be rated 7+, meaning is it suitable for anyone over the age of 7. It is accessible to both males and females, and is mostly aimed towards a young audience of PC gamers, as well as any fan of the genre or Zool series. Here is a mood board of games that 7+ gamers may play.
