Introduction to Classification
How are living things grouped together? Use a simple classification key to identify an unknown substance. Analyze structural, behavioral, and physiological adaptations to predict which populations are likely to survive in a particular environment. Today’s Goals: List the levels of organization in order from broadest to most specific. Identify organisms by their tw0-part names.

Binomial Nomenclature
Use the last two classification levels to name an organism. (Genus and Species) The scientific name of an organism is its Genus species. Genus name is capitalized. Species name is lower case. Both words are underlined or written in italics. You will underline it!

Walk around the room and find the Genus names and species names. Correctly write a two-part scientific name using the options taped to the walls. You will need five scientific names: Genus species. Use the chart to draw what your five creatures would look like based on their scientific names.
