In the tissues of the thyroid gland, cancer cells form. This is called thyroid cancer. The thyroid is located in the throat, next to the trachea (windpipe). It has a right and left lobe, just like the brain does. The isthmus, a thin piece of tissue, connects the 2 lobes. The thyroid gland is in a butterfly shape.
