St. John’s Church of England Primary School Newsletter
- Learning and Caring Together - Issue 10 Friday 23rd November 2018 Church News Just a few messages from Church as we head towards Christmas. The Church Christmas Fair will be taking place on Saturday 1st December – all families are welcome. We are hoping that the school choir will be performing but this will depend on whether enough children are available! Ms Hudson has sent out a letter to the choir this week. Banks Brass Band will be performing on 7th December – you can pay on the door. The Toy service will take place on Sunday 2nd December. As part of the service, Mrs Thompson will be donating any chocolate bars to the Rotary Club so they can distribute them at Christmas. If you have a spare bar or two of chocolate at home, please can any donations be passed to Mrs Thompson in Year 3. Congratulations Well done to all the children in Years 4 and 5 who made the decision to become confirmed last weekend in a beautiful service at St Cuthbert’s. Congratulations also to all the children in Year 5 who passed their Bikeability bronze and silver qualifications this week. The instructors were very proud of their groups. Competition Day It’s that time again on Wednesday when Neil from PDS will be leading competition day in school. Please can children make sure they bring trainers and tracksuits on Wednesday as we will be outside where possible (even if it is cold!) Road Safety We had a special visitor in school today leading our assembly. Joe Morris, from Sefton Council, came in to speak to all the children about how to stay safe when out and about outside of school, especially with the nights drawing in. He then lead Year 3 in a special workshop entitled “Be Safe, Be seen”. If any parents would like any guidance on reinforcing this important safety message at home, there are resources available on the BRAKE website – Carols By Candlelight Advance warning that our annual Carols By Candelight service will take place in the school hall starting at 3:30 pm on Wednesday 5th December. Last year, this service was beautifully led by Mrs Thompson, Ms Hudson and the JOY team and we are looking forward to another evening which will set us up beautifully for the festive period. Please join us for a carol or two, some festive words, refreshments and the opportunity to start the Christmas spirit flowing! Reception Nativity Our Reception Nativity performance will also take on Wednesday 5th December at 9:30 am in the school hall. The children are hard at work rehearsing to make sure they are ready for the big day – some of the singing I can hear in my office is beautiful. Netball – match report by Miss Halsall St John's travelled to Churchtown to play their last match for Autumn term. It was a very cold night and we needed to wrap up warm - but not for long! The team were soon getting hot as they were whizzing around the court attacking and defending well. Luca and Emma played seamlessly together in the D which resulted in 2 goals! Our defense was put to the test but was strong with many interceptions. Emils and Emma worked the middle third well. Game ended 3-2 to Churchtown - their last goal was scored in the last 20 seconds! A great effort to all - player of the match: Ashleigh - I've never seen a GD move and intercept like she did last night! She certainly worked extremely hard! Well done all!
