3 Building Your Website This week, we will be working on building personal websites for each of you. A personal website is a valuable tool. It is something you can show potential colleges, trade/tech schools, and/or employers. Remember: When you build a personal website, you are ADVERTISING YOURSELF! Make sure you keep everything PROFESSIONAL and APPROPRIATE! Make sure you present your BEST QUALITIES!

4 Building Your Website For your website building, we will be using the same site I used to build my teacher website. It is pretty easy to use and has lots of options. Go to Click on “Sign Up”

13 Building Your Website From here, you are going to have to experiment some. You will want to add pictures and content that will help you present yourself and your best qualities! I will work with you as you explore and play with the format of your page. We will discuss one page at a time this week.

14 Home Page This is the first thing people will see when they come to your website. It is critical that they know they are in the right place! It is also critical that you GET THEIR ATTENTION!

Make sure it is appropriate and that it is something that truly represents you! There should be VERY LITTLE writing, if any at all, on your Home Page. Save all of the details for your other pages!

17 About Me Page This page is for you to put a basic biography of yourself. You can use your past/present/future writing to come up with things to include. Include some of your proudest moments (see today’s start-up) Include any awards/honors/trophies you have won! BRAG!!!

Those of you who submitted an essay, they have been edited and notes have been given. Go to your essay now and look at the edits. If you see: Red- that means take that word or words out. You have used the wrong word or it is unnecessary. Blue- that means add something in…words or punctuation Green- that means you made an error in capitalization Underlined- that means the word is misspelled

63 “About Me” Essays Revisited
Make the corrections that have been marked on your papers. Be sure to look at any notes that I have written on the sides of the page and address those too. Make sure that you FIX everything noted and REMOVE all of the colored text and markings. When that is done, go to your About Me page of your website and add your essay to it. Add another good, appropriate, professional looking picture of yourself to that page also.

You will go back to the pages for the two careers you already researched. Go to the “Education and Training” section on the page This section shows college majors you could choose.

When you go to the page for that major, you should find a link to colleges that offer that major.

72 Education Page Use the filters to fill out what you want in a school.
Check out the results you get and choose a school you might be interested in.

73 Education Page If you don’t get the results you want, try searching for a school by location.

74 Education Page Once you have chosen a school you are interested in, click on it and look at the information given.

75 Education Page Using that page, fill out the College Choice Worksheet.
You will do this for at least TWO possible colleges. You may need to visit the college’s actual website for some of the information. This information will end up on your Education page.
