Cell Processes Chapter 3
2
Moving Cellular Materials
Passive Transport- The movement of substances through the cell membrane without the use of energy.
3
Two Types: Diffusion- Materials that move from high amounts to low amounts. Osmosis- When water moves from high amounts to low amounts.
4
Diffusion
6
Free of Energy! Diffusion and Osmosis happen naturally!
Does not cost the cell any energy!
7
Active Transport When the cell spends energy to bring materials inside or outside the cell. Endocytosis & Exocytosis
8
Endocytosis Process by which a cell takes in a substance by surrounding it with the cell membrane.
9
Exocytosis Process by which a cell gets rid of substances from the cell.
10
Types of Transport Diffusion Endocytosis Exocytosis Osmosis Active
Passive Active Diffusion Endocytosis Exocytosis Osmosis
11
Homeostasis Ability for organisms to keep conditions inside the body the same. In order for this to occur, Passive and Active Transport must occur.
12
Cell’s Needs Cells need to bring in : Oxygen Food nutrients
Cells need to get rid of : Waste Carbon Dioxide
13
Cell’s Needs The cell uses various organ systems to bring in oxygen and food, and to get rid of waste products.
