Test after every 4th assignment.
Honors – 2 assignments each time.
Global Literacy
Students must actively read an article from the news.
Students will then highlight the article, noting the most important parts. This gets turned in, too.
Finally, students will write a 2 paragraph summary of the article, OR, they may “create a quiz” by writing 8-9 questions, and 8-9 answers, about the article.
Rules:
1. NO sports, articles about actors, singers, television, movies, music. In other words, it must be “current events”, not lifestyle, sports, or entertainment.
2. Article MUST be 12+ paragraphs long.
3. You MUST write your summaries/questions in your own words!
4. Students may NOT “share” articles.
5. You may use the following sources. They can be “hard” copies, or you can print articles from the sources’ websites:

*HONORS – you will also watch the news and summarize 3 stories you viewed during the ½ or hour program. National news (AKA Network news) and programs such as 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, Dateline are fine. Stations such as CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, CNN, and BBC are acceptable.
Each summary should be a full paragraph long. This will net 3 paragraph HW assignment.
