Presentation on theme: "Walk-In Take out notebook, pencil box and folder."— Presentation transcript:

1 Walk-In Take out notebook, pencil box and folder. Copy the question and answer in sentences: Explain how transpiration helps a plant get rid of excess water. (Hint: Like a plant sweating!)

2 Answer Transpiration occurs as a plant pulls up water from the roots, and evaporates it from the stomata in the leaves.

3 Transportation In A Plant

4 How does transportation occur in our bodies?
Think of something that needs to be circulated throughout our bodies to keep us alive. How does it get around? Blood moves in VEINS and ARTERIES. They are part of our VASCULAR system.

5 Vascular Plants are VASCULAR, meaning they have organized systems for transporting materials in the plant.

6 Plant ORGANS include the leaves, roots and stems.
REVIEW Organs Plant ORGANS include the leaves, roots and stems.

7 REVIEW Leaves Leaves make food by photosynthesis, creating glucose (a sugar) for energy and growth.

8 REVIEW Roots Roots help the plant stay up, and bring up nutrients and water from the soil.

9 Xylem – WRITE THIS DOWN! XYLEM carries water and nutrients UP from the roots to the stem and leaves. Xylem always flows UP.

10 Phloem – WRITE THIS DOWN!
Phloem carries sugar made in the leaves to every part of the plant. It flows DOWN, unless it has to go up to deliver sugar (like to the top of the plant).

11 Transpiration – WRITE THIS DOWN!
Transpiration occurs as water evaporates off a plant’s leaves, pulling up more water to take its place. (Like the plant is sweating!)

12 Reading for information
Read the passage about xylem and phloem. Answer the questions in bullet form, and highlight the part of the passage that has evidence for your answer.
