How do the circulatory and respiratory work together to allow the body to maintain homeostasis? Higher Order Questions: How do materials move through the body? How does the blood help maintain homeostasis in the body? Vocabulary: Circulatory System- The system that is comprised of the cardiovascular and lymphatic system. Heart- An organ in the cardiovascular system that pumps blood through the body. Lungs- An organ in the respiratory system that takes in oxygen and exchanges it for carbon dioxide, which you breathe out. Respiratory System-

Vocabulary Vocabulary:
Circulatory System- The system that is comprised of the cardiovascular and lymphatic system. Heart- An organ in the cardiovascular system that pumps blood through the body. Lungs- An organ in the respiratory system that takes in oxygen and exchanges it for carbon dioxide, which you breathe out. Respiratory System- A group of organs that takes in oxygen, and gets rid of carbon dioxide.

The Circulatory and Respiratory Systems? More Like The Complex Systems. Before we can truly explain the two systems, we have to tell you something: The circulatory system is truly 2 systems working as one! You see, the cardiovascular and lymphatic system work together to create the circulatory system.

Cardiovascular System
The main function of the cardiovascular is to pump blood through out the body. Blood is the fluid that carries gases, nutrients, and wastes through the body. The cardiovascular system is a closed circulatory system. This means that the vessels in the system create a closed loop. The blood maintains homeostasis by transporting hormones, nutrients, and oxygen to cells and by carrying wastes away from cells.

Parts of the Cardiovascular System
The Heart- The big guy. Powers the whole thing by pumping the blood through the body. Blood- Connective tissue that holds supplies for cells, chemical messages, and removing wastes. Blood Vessels: There are three types blood vessels: The Artery: The blood is pumped out of the heart into these vessels. The Vein: This vessel contains blood that is coming back to the heart. The Capillary- These blood vessels allow for the blood to be put in the various parts of the body. It also does the gas exchange in the body.

Lymphatic System The main function of the lymphatic system is to collect lymph, a liquid that contains waste and disease, and transport it to a place where it is destroyed. The lymphatic system is an open circulatory system, and lymph can move in and out of the vessels. The lymphatic system is also part of your body’s defenses against disease. Certain lymph vessels in the abdomen move fats from the intestine and into the blood.

Parts of the Lymphatic System
Lymph nodes- small bean shaped organs that remove pathogens from lymph. Lymph vessels-thin walled vessels that carry lymph back to the nodes. Bone marrow- soft tissue inside of the bones where blood cell are produced. Tonsils-small lymphatic organs that contain white blood cells which trap pathogens. Thymus- an organ in the chest that finishes development of the white blood cells, and sends them through the lymphatic system to the rest of the body. Spleen- The largest organ in the lymphatic system, the spleen stores white blood cells and allows them to mature.

The Respiratory System
The Respiratory System’s main function is to take the oxygen from the air and exchange it for the carbon dioxide from the blood, which it then puts into the blood. What happens is the heart( part of the cardiovascular system!) pumps blood without a lot of oxygen through the arteries to the lungs. Then the blood gets into the capillaries. Then, the carbon dioxide is transferred into the alveoli. As you breathe in, oxygen goes through the windpipe and eventually reaches the lungs, where it goes nto the bronchi, the into the bronchioles, then the alveoli. After that, the oxygen is transferred into the blood in a cycle that only ends when you die.

Parts of the Respiratory System
The Nose/mouth- The beginning of the system, these parts take in the air that we breathe. The Pharynx- The throat. The air travels from the nose/mouth to here, and then this splits into two tubes. The Larynx- This part of the throat contains the vocal cords. When air passes through there, sound is made. The Trachea- A tube that extends from the larynx to the lungs. The Lungs- The organs that contain the bronchi and their contents. The Bronchi- Contains the air. Splits into the bronchioles. The Bronchioles- Branches of the bronchi. Connect to alveoli. The Alveoli- Tiny air sacs that have capillaries on them. They exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen with the blood.sss
