Ch 3-2 Notes: Interactions of Light w/ Matter
Reflection: the bouncing back of a ray of light, sound, or heat when the ray hits a surface that it does not go thru. Law of Reflection: the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. Angle of Incidence = Angle of Reflection.
2
Absorption: in optics, the transfer of light energy to particles of matter. Transmission: the passing of light, or other form of energy thru matter.
3
Scattering: an interaction of light w/ matter that causes light to change its energy, direction of motion, or both.
4
An object can be seen if the eye detects light that is emitted by or reflected from the object.
Lights interacts w/matter during reflection, absorption, scattering, and transmission. Light that travels thru material that does not change always travels in straight lines.
