Vocabulary (in alphabetical Order)
Pewter: A blend of mostly tin and any other cheaper metal that was available. The people who made these items are called a Pewtersmith. Moravian: A Moravian is someone who belongs to the Moravian church. The Moravian church is the oldest protestant faith in the World. Potter: A tradesman responsible for making pottery. Redware: A type of pottery made from red clay. Sampler: A cross-stitch project done by young girls as a way to learn, practice, and demonstrate sewing skills. Silhouette: Before and during the early years of photography, people would have silhouettes made of themselves so that they had a portrait. This was the inexpensive alternative to having a portrait painted. Silversmith: A tradesman who worked with and made silver products. Sister/Brother: In Salem, NC in the 18th & 19th centuries, members of Salem Congregation (members of the church) referred to each other as sister/brother.
