Kanga & Kitenge: Cloth and Culture in East Africa ©2008 Erie Art Museum Kitenge from the Erie Art Museum Collection Kitenge (plural, vitenge) is a kind of East African cloth. All these samples were screen printed in Tanzanian factories. Usually people buy it in one long 10 foot length. The most typical way for women to wear kitenge is to cut the length in half, wrap one piece around the waist, and drape the other over the head or shoulders. Men and women also have kitenge sewn into custom made shirts and dresses. www.erieartmuseum.org
