Struggling with Anger Problems Christians Face

2 What is anger? To be provoked or agitated by something as a result of displeasure A primary emotion (joy, sadness, fear & anger) Wrath, fury, indignation, rage, etc.

3 What is anger? ὀργίζω (orgizō), most prominent word, usually indicating the state of mind, that often lingers θυμός, (thymos), stronger word indicating a burning and immediate response. The wrath of God

4 The problem of anger Prevalent in our society – we live in angry times. Demonstrated by bad behavior For some, habitual, while for others a trigger point Spiritually, do we deal with anger toward our brethren? Anger toward ourselves?

5 The problem of anger MOST of us deal with anger at times. The challenge is HOW do we manage our anger? THAT is what determines whether or not it is sinful NOTE: Raising one’s voice or becoming upset is not necessarily sinful!

6 The Bible and anger Acceptable (unsinful) anger The wrath of God – Psalm 7:11, God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day. Romans 1:18, 2:5-9

7 The Bible and anger Acceptable (unsinful) anger Jesus became angry – John 2:15-17, cleansing the temple Mark 3:5, on the Sabbath, he healed a man with a withered hand

Proverbs 14:17, A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, And a man of wicked intentions is hated. Proverbs 29:20, 22, Do you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him. An angry man stirs up strife, And a furious man abounds in transgression.

14 Dealing with anger Remember you are a Christian at all times! Self-control – Galatians 5:22-23, James 1:19 Love – 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

15 Dealing with anger Reflection and examination Galatians 6:4 Why are you angry? Are you responding properly? Is there something that triggers this? Is your life a wreck?

18 Dealing with anger A soft answer Proverbs 15:1, a soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger

19 Dealing with anger When possible avoid situations and people that provoke you to anger 1 Corinthians 15:33

20 Dealing with anger Instead of responding with bitterness and wrath, work to correct whatever is angering you

21 Dealing with anger IF you are in sin, repent! Matthew 5:23-24 Luke 17:3-4
