HOW THEY MADE THE FILM PIRATES
GAN Xavi Koby Mia a Gwennan
2
How it all began •It all started with a book.
•The author was called Gideon Defoe. • The man who read the book was Peter Lord and he wanted to make a film about it. •The director was also Peter Lord. •The Producer was called Julie Lockhart.

Designing the pirates world
•They thought that it all had to have some humor and it's got to be funny. •The characters got sketched on some paper and then duplicated it and changed the mouth and changed some details. •The name of the character designer was Jonny Duddle. •Norman Gorwood was the costume designer. •They tried to make it funny.

The Story •The name of the Co-Directorwas Jess Newit. •Rejean Bourdages is the head of the Story Board. •The Story Booard is a blueprint of the film. •They have story meetings. •They also have a Story Board department to make sure that everything is perfect.

Puppet making Click to add text -Debbie Smith is the Design Sculpture.
-Kate Anderson and Andrew Boxham are the Puppet Designers. -The drawn designs are very graphic. -The biggest puppet was the king. -They have lots of puppets for the same character. -This means they can film more than one scene at a time. -Clothes are made of latex and silicon and they have a steel skeleton under it all.

SETS •Supenisim art is Matt Perry and Mike Applebee is the constructing manager. •Head of props is Jane Kite. •They have to over build the sets because they don't move. •The props have to be drawn up before they are built. •For all of the locations on the film it takes hard work to make them . •Phil Lewis is the art director. •first they use a cardboard model and they imagine being in the film world but with a smaller version.

MOUTHS They have hundreds of different mouths for one character.
They make the mouth lip sync. The mouths get printed in 3D. Michael Gran is the lip sinc animator. The mouth is an essential part of the film because it shows what the pirates are saying. They need different mouths in different positions. The pirate captain has over 250 mouths.

VOICE RECORDING Hugh Grant does the voice of the ‘Pirate Captain’.
Martin Freeman does the voice of the ‘Pirate with a Scarf’ and David Tennent does the voice of ‘Charles Darwin’. It takes months or years to not use the words and pictures on a piece of paper. They have a session with actors and they do the taking. The Actors have to try and be the characters. For years they just had it on paper, but then the actors brought it to life.

SHIPS IN WATER They always knew they would need a ship in water although it was in a studio completely dry. Andy Morley was the visual TV supervisor and Chris King was a CG supervisor. The biggest challenge was doing the sea. Frank Passing was a Animator and Photographer. They bobbled the colour until they put it together. They don't move the ship the move the camera so it looked like it was moving. Benjamin Toogood was the CGI Supervisor, and Pod McFull was the Fix Supervisor.
12
SOUND You have to get the footprints (for the characters) perfectly.
Audrey Morris is the Sound Director. People get paid to shout in the background for the film.

MUSIC For the music they have an orchestra .
There are a lot of people in the orchestra . The music is an important part of the film because it sets a ‘vibe’ for the scene.
