EVAAS is one point of Data. Data Literacy is a critical skill for educators. This module provides an introduction to data literacy. It includes information on types of data, strategies for analyzing and understanding data, and processes for determining how these can influence instructional practices. This module aims to provide learning experiences that develop or enhance abilities to find, evaluate, and use data to inform instruction.
of the Data Resource Guide is to provide information and resources to help administrators, data coaches, teachers, and support staff with data driven decision making for their schools and districts. Districts and charter schools are encouraged to use this guide to design and implement training for data teams with the goal of increased data literacy and student achievement.

4. Mission, Vision and Goals of Summer Institute 2013
This year’s Summer Institute will build on the knowledge and skills learned from previous Institutes with a focus on building district- and school-level leadership capacity to improve instruction. To accomplish this, the agency will provide a hands-on, highly engaging, two-day professional development experience that supports the NC Standard Course of Study, the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System, the next generation of state assessments, data literacy and NC’s new Home Base © using a gradual release of responsibility framework and Guskey’s Evaluating Professional Development Model1.
VISION
NCDPI will collaborate with district and school leaders through cross-agency design teams to facilitate group discussions, model best practices and intentionally make connections to each of the state initiatives utilizing technology and collaborative processes.
GOALS
Facilitate collaboration and district planning between LEAs/Charter Schools to ensure statewide success
Build interdependence among the LEAs and Schools within a region and across the state
Model the alignment and interconnectedness of the collective work of the agency so districts can make the same connections locally

Home Base PowerSchool Project Update Webinars -- The Home Base SIS team (PowerSchool) will be providing a two-hour project update webinar on a regular basis. Topics will include timelines and associated tasks, conversion from NC WISE, specific customizations for North Carolina plus answers to frequently asked questions. Each session will allot time for questions and answers. All sessions will be held 1-3 p.m. on the following dates: March 14 and 28, April 11, May 9 and 23, and June 6.

9. When the system is first rolled out, teachers will have immediate access to content that has been vetted, tagged, and aligned to Common Core and NC Essential Standards. DPI has a team of people reviewing resources and selecting those that are strictly aligned – this process involves a teacher review to ensure that these are resources that teachers will use.
These are some examples of instructional resources that we know we are going to use. You may already know about and use these, but know we will have them all in one place and only include those things that are aligned to NC Standard Course of Study (NC SCOS).

Here is the timeline for Home Base. In September 2012, NC began transitioning to a new student information system by upgrading from NC WISE to PowerSchool. At the same time, staff from the instructional side began preparing content like lesson plans and assessment materials that will be available for teachers to use.
In December 2012, a contract was awarded to PEARSON for the instruction, assessment, and dashboard components of the instructional improvement system. The contract for the Educator Evaluation and Professional Development components has been awarded to the Public Consulting Group (PCG) and Truenorthlogic, partnering vendors. Home Base team members for the student information system, the core instructional improvement system functionality, and the educator evaluation and professional development components are all working together toward building and implementing Home Base.
Integrating the SIS and IIS components will begin in early 2013 followed by piloting of the IIS components in mid Home Base goes live starting in the school year. The student information system (PowerSchool), Curriculum & Instruction, Classroom & Benchmark Assessment, and Educator Evaluation components of Home Base will be available to Year Round Schools in July 2013 and will be available to traditional calendar schools in August Availability of other components, including OpenClass Learning Management System will be available in October 2013.
Note-The SIS is by PowerSchool. We are calling it by its more generic function (SIS) in this timeline that we don’t create confusion about there being disparate systems, though many of our communications out do indicate that the SIS is PowerSchool. Both the SIS and the IIS make up Home Base.
