Do Now Get your folder from the front crate and find your seat Begin working on your Daily Edit paragraph. Once the bell rings, you will have five minutes to find all 10 mistakes in today’s paragraph. Remember: Do Now's are INDEPENDENT and QUIET exercises. Thank you 

2 Wednesday January 11, 2016 It’s a bird! It’s a plane No, its a flying boat airplane! The first commercial airplane flight was actually a flying boat. It happen in January A former mayor of St Petersburg, Florida, paid 400 to fly from St. Petersburg to Tampa. The 18mile trip took only 23 minutes by plane. Traveling the same distance by ship would of taken over two hours. Since the flight was successful, plane trips across the Tampa Buy became popular. Passengers paid $five each way to take a trip on the special boat plain.

5 Similes and Metaphors Through Song Lyrics
On the front of your Figurative Language Packet, put “CW” for classwork in the “Lens of Rap Lyrics” row. Turn to page 5. Take a few minutes to read through the song lyric. Then, underline all similes and metaphors (hint: there’s more than one in some of them!). Label them S or M for Simile or Metaphor.

6 Finding your own lyrics
For the rest of class, your job is to find a song that uses two DIFFERENT types of figurative language (they may be simile and metaphor, but if you want to use the other types you can). For #7 on your paper, give me: The song title The artist Two lyrics from the song What type of figurative language each lyric is Note: Make sure the song title and the lyrics you choose are school appropriate 

7 Finding your own lyrics
Example: “The Dog Days are Over” by Florence + The Machine “Happiness hit her like a train on a track Simile Coming towards her, stuck still no turning back” “Leave all your love and your longing behind Alliteration You can't carry it with you if you want to survive”

8 Figurative Language in lyrics
Once you’ve found your lyrics, you can begin creating your poster! Remember, your poster needs: The song title (1 pts) The artist (1 pts) Two lyrics from the song (4 pts) What type of figurative language each lyric is (8 pts) Visual Element – draw an image from or related to the song! (4 pts)

9 IXL Once you’ve finished your poster, you may begin working on our last assignment for the day – IXL! Go to IXL.com and log in (if you’re unsure what the log in is, ask me or the person next to you) Underneath the Language Arts section, click on ninth grade skills Begin working on N.1 under Subject/Verb Agreement. You will need a Smart Score of at least 80% for full possible points. Good luck! 
